Bachelor of Business and Technology

The double degree programs with the Bachelor of Business Technology require four year of full-time study (or the equivalent part-time). The Bachelor of Business Technology component is administered by the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Students cannot complete the Bachelor of Business and Technology as a stand alone degree.
Applicants who have completed a science, engineering or business award should enrol in the Master of Business and Technology.

Students may only undertake the Bachelor of Business and Technology or the Master of Business Technology.

Admission requirements

The minimum requirements for consideration for entry to all undergraduate courses are specified in detail in the University Entry Requirements.

Applicants must be enrolled in an approved 108-unit Science, Engineering or Business degree* from Flinders University and have successfully completed at least 36 units of that degree with a minimum GPA of 4.  Students enrolled in an approved 108-unit science, engineering or business degree and who are planning to undertake honours are encouraged to enrol in the Master of Business and Technology.

The Bachelor of Business and Technology cannot be taken as a stand-alone award. Applicants who have completed a Science, Engineering or Business award should enrol in the Master of Business and Technology.

Course aims

The course has been designed to provide graduates of science, engineering and business awards with:

  • an understanding of the theory and practice of innovation and entrepreneurship
  • business and innovation skills to complement the students existing skills
  • an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities and a commitment to them
  • an ability to apply knowledge of business and technology to contribute to innovation and entrepreneurship within an organisation
  • an ability to carry out management tasks in a science or engineering-based enterprise
  • an ability to understand a typical science and engineering company structure, operation, responsibilities and business culture.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the award, students will be able to:

  • competently use professional skills and knowledge in an environment in which innovation is essential
  • apply skills and knowledge in a professionally responsible manner
  • communicate effectively with other scientists and engineers as well as associated professionals and the wider community using a wide range of communication technologies
  • work professionally as an individual and in a team
  • develop ideas and solutions appropriate to the social, political, economic and environmental contexts in which they are applied
  • engage in the process of continuing learning needed to retain the necessary level of professional skills and knowledge.

Program of study

To qualify for the Bachelor of Business and Technology a student must complete 36 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic, according to the program of study below

Students undertaking the Bachelor of Business and Technology will not be eligible for the award until all of the requirements for that degree and those of the science, engineering or business degree with which it is paired have been completed.

Note that in the Bachelor of Business and Technology no credit is granted for previous studies.

Not all topics are necessarily available in a given year.

Students who have completed the first 36 units of the Master of Business Technology will be deemed eligible for the Bachelor of Business and Technology, and may exit with a Bachelor of Business and Technology.

This award has two schedules:

  • Schedule 1 - For those currently enrolled in a Science, Engineering or Medical Science award
  • Schedule 2 - For those currently enrolled in a Business award

*ENGR3704 Project Management for Engineering and Science is taught intensively commencing before the normal start of semester.  Students must ensure that they are available for this early start.

**In exceptional circumstances and with the permission of the course coordinator, STEP3700 Business and Technology Practicum may be replaced by 9 units of options listed in Table B (PDF)

***Students who intend to undertake their practicum outside of Australia should instead enrol in the topic ENGR3710 International Engineering Practicum.  Enrolment is subject to approval by the School and will consider the quality and appropriateness of the placement.

##Those undertaking schedule 1 must undertake options listed as Group B while those undertaking Schedule 2 must undertake options listed in Group T.

The following double degree combinations are available:

Applicants who have completed a science, engineering or business award should enrol in the Master of Business and Technology.

Students may only undertake a double degree with Bachelor of Business and Technology or the Master of Business Technology.
