A student who has completed all the requirements of the Bachelor of Archaeology, or another qualification which the Faculty Board agrees is equivalent, may be accepted as a candidate for the honours degree providing a sufficiently high standard has been achieved in fulfilling the requirements for the bachelors degree.
Course aims
This honours degree aims to:
- increase the theoretical knowledge, research skills and applied skills required to develop appropriate depth of understanding of issues in a number of related specialisations in archaeology
- extend students' ability to think, speak and write about archaeological theories and issues in a critically-engaged, and ethically responsive manner
- develop students' skills in research, writing and publication
- provide students with the necessary knowledge, theoretical understanding and study skills to research and present, both orally and in writing, an extended piece of research.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this honours degree students will be able to:
- demonstrate an ability to critically evaluate ideas, concepts and approaches in archaeological research
- demonstrate skills developed to plan research activities, manage their time independently, and present their research both orally and in writing
- demonstrate a broad understanding of the method and meaning of completing an extended piece of research, including an understanding of the ethical considerations of carrying out research
- apply their skills in a practical setting.
