The Graduate Diploma in Clean Technology is an 36-unit program offered by the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences, within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Admission requirements

Applicants must normally hold a degree in any relevant discipline of science or engineering or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution. Examples of relevant disciplines include but are not limited to Chemistry, Physics, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Medical Science or Environmental Science.

The Faculty Board may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.

Course Aims

The goal of this course will be to provide a high quality education by providing both an awareness of current issues and the various technological approaches to solving these issues. This Graduate Entry program will help people currently in the workforce to upgrade skills in this emerging field.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, graduates should be able to:

  • demonstrate a capacity to understand and apply modern scientific principles;
  • demonstrate advanced skills in the retrieval and presentation of scientific information both orally and in writing to scientific and non-scientific audiences;
  • show proficiency in the critical analysis of information and capacity to solve complex problems;
  • analyse critically and evaluate numerical data;
  • demonstrate advanced competence in the practical use of relevant computer and information technology;
  • work effectively in a team and form strong multidisciplinary educational links through joint team projects that cross the traditional areas of science;
  • understand and fully articulate the role of science in society;
  • use well developed judgement to appreciate the complex ethical issues raised through the study of science;
  • understand clean technology and have an advanced grounding in multidisciplinary areas of clean technology;
  • demonstrate an increased understanding of current industrial practice, issues with these practices and potential solutions to these issues;
  • demonstrate a range of professional, scientific and computational skills that will enhance employment opportunities in a wide range of industrial and governmental institutions;
  • critically analyse scientific literature to plan research projects, formulate hypothesises and design experiments to test them.
